Photography contest winners selected
The Borneo Bulletin Photography Contest winners were selected yesterday at the Brunei Press Sdn Bhd building. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the contest received over 1,000 entries across five categories: People, Food and Culture; Places, Landmarks, and Wildlife; Royal Wedding; Brunei Darussalam’s 40th National Day; and Fitness, Sports, and Lifestyle. Present at the event were Brunei Press General Manager Anafiah binti Omar, Senior Manager Suzie Houng, and representatives from sponsoring organizations. Winners will be announced on July 12 in the Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata.
Company organises lucky draw
AIFA Sdn Bhd hosted a lucky draw event at Managing Director Dr. Andy Lau’s residence in Kampong Lambak, selecting 39 customers to advance and compete for prizes worth BND30,000. Dr. Lau highlighted AIFA’s evolution from a wholesale distributor of international home appliance brands to establishing two in-house brands, AIFA and PEVY. Celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, AIFA has expanded into retail with seven stores under Audiomarc Company and ventured into e-commerce in 2020. The company’s latest initiative includes a rent-to-own business named Adana and the construction of an after-sales service and training centre, set to open next year. The event also showcased new products and was attended by Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof.
Association swears in new leadership
The Fuzhou Shiyyi Association in Brunei Darussalam celebrated the inauguration of its new president, Dr. Andy Lau Sie Chuong, alongside the new executive committee at a ceremony graced by distinguished guests including Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof. Founding president Jackson Ting highlighted the association's journey of hard work and sacrifice over the past 11 years. The new leadership, comprising Jeff Yong Teck Chin as deputy president, and vice presidents Wong Nan Luk, Raymond Ting Sii Kiong, Ngu Howe Ing, and Vincent Pao, pledged to uphold the association’s objectives of fostering business cooperation and friendship.
Association elects new committee members
Dr. Andy Lau Sie Chuong assumes the mantle of leadership as the newly elected President of the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam, following a decisive vote during the association’s 2023 annual general meeting. Amidst the presence of 81 esteemed members, the association also appointed Jeff Yong Teck Chin as Deputy President and welcomed Wong Nan Luk, Raymond Ting Sii Kiong, Ngu Howe Ing, and Vincent Pao as Vice Presidents. Luke Lau and Jessica Lee retained their positions as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. Dr. Lau expressed gratitude to founding president Jackson Ting for his decade-long service and pledged to maintain unity within the association while championing initiatives such as an education fund for underprivileged students. With commendable financial health, the association looks forward to a prosperous future under Dr. Lau's stewardship.
DANA receives over BND75K in donation
The Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) was the focal point of a generous donation ceremony at the multipurpose hall of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex. Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the chairman of DANA's Board of Trustees, graciously accepted contributions totaling BND75,381 from three benevolent donors. Notably, the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam led the philanthropic efforts with a substantial contribution of BND72,751. The ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed representatives from Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College and the Sultan’s Scholar Alumni, reaffirming the community's commitment to supporting orphans.
BDTA hosts exhibition match with Pakistan Navy
The Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association (BDTA) organized an exhibition match between the Brunei Darussalam Inter-Club Team and the Pakistan Navy Team at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex. This friendly match showcased the enduring friendship between Brunei and Pakistan, highlighted through the sport of tug-of-war. Ghulam Haider, Pakistan’s Deputy Head of Mission to Brunei Darussalam, graced the event as the guest of honor, joined by BDTA Vice President Dr. Andy Lau Sie Chuong. The Brunei team consisted of participants from various clubs, while the Pakistan Navy Team was represented by the Shamsheer and Nasr teams. The event concluded with a prize and certificate presentation to all participants and an exchange of souvenirs between the BDTA and Pakistan Navy officers.
